It's opportunity knocking! I've got something that could be really sweet going on for bloggers and readers alike. But first let's discuss DADI...
The DADI Special Omalympics is on Wednesday. We had 62 people at our last event, NL Hold'em, so I'd be glad if we could get 35 to the Pot Limit Omaha 8b game. I know it isn't the most popular poker game, but it should be damn fun. Team Omatards (aka the Poker Mafia, TripJax, GCox and I) will be taking on the PL Omaha Specialists (Surflexus, Mowenumdown, and the Sharkness) in a team last longer bet. The odds are definitely NOT in our favor. But I'm never one to turn down a challenge. On that note, I will be taking on Drizz in a last longer bet as well. It's sort of like Glass Joe from Mike Tyson's Punchout taking on Tyson himself. In case you haven't caught on, I'll be playing the role of the punching bag.
Now onto other exciting news.
I received an email in December from a site that wanted to advertise on High On Poker, America's # 7 Most Popular Poker Blog (according to BlogsOnPoker.com). Now, I'm no shill, so I told the gentleman that I would have to try their software out first to determine if I approved of the site. I didn't start this blog to make money, so if something comes along, I want to make sure I'm not directing my readers to something I myself wouldn't use.
I finally got around to checking out the site this weekend, and I have to admit that I was more than impressed. Once everything is in place, I'll give a full write-up on the site. But let me first throw something out there:
The site and I are working on a deal, where bloggers/readers can enter a $6, $10 or $20 WPT Satellite and be reimbursed for the buy-in after the event. For the $20 event, I believe the site would prefer that players don't just play that event and nothing else, so my focus is on the $10 event. In the end, I think a lot of players will stick around once they try the software.
It's essentially a freeroll, and from my understanding, the deal will be offerred to bloggers and readers only (although other players will be in the satellite, spending their hard-earned dollars like the chumps they are). My thoughts are that we can storm a satellite and take the damn thing over. This may be a great way to all play together AND send a blogger or reader to a WPT event.
So, my question is, if we can get this free WPT satellite deal, would you sign up and deposit at a new site (with my word that the site is actually a great site, both as per game selection and user interface)? Do you think we could get a grass-roots movement going?
I also want to make something clear. If this site does advertise on my site, I will not be getting paid per referral, but rather a flat amount. So it's not about me wanting to get a lot of players through my referral. It IS about me trying to get something for everyone in the poker blogging community.
Poker players, come out and playeeyay!

What are the last longer stakes? Is it just one on the team that needs to last longer? Now I am getting interested. Perhaps Veneno should have a team...

J,
Give us a little hint about what site it is. You know I am down for it if you are. Throw us a bone or at least give us a hint.
Veneno, the last longer stakes are cumulative. You take all three members places and add them up and the lowest score wins.

The WPT thing sounds interesting, but I would need more info and would also need to look at the site first. I won't discount the possibility, though.

I'll release the name of the site soon. I want to make sure we have everything set up first though, so that when the deal is set we can show them the overall effect, rather than having some trickle in beforehand. I gaurantee though that it is in the final stages of being set.
As for V's question, the team last longer will be based on cumulative place amongst the team. So, if Team A places 1st, 30th and 35th (total score of 66) and Team B places 10th, 14th and 16th (total score of 40), then Team B wins, even though a player on Team A placed 1st.
V, get yourself a team. I'll take stakes of $5 to $10 per player, but I can't speak for my team. I'll also take $5-10 wagers for a heads-up last longer bet. - At 5:02 PM, said...

I'd take a look at the WPT thing. I got one of those unsolicited ad offers from a new site a month or so ago, if it's the same place maybe you can give me some info on the joint. I haven't bothered depositing there yet.

Sounds great, I would definately sign up for it, if the tournament was on a suitable time for me. Being Australian, the tournies tend to be on when I am at work, but I understand catering to the 1000 or so AMericans that might sign up instead of the one Aussie.
So yeah, sounds like a great idea, I'm in if I can be. - At 5:53 PM, said...

Good news, Aussies! The site will offer the reimbursement for any of their WPT Satellites, including the ones that are on during your god-awful hours. I just wanted to coordinate to get everyone to do one together, but a range of times are probably best so we can win a couple of these. Maybe we'll set up a time for the Aussies to swarm the site.
