I'm a Five Percenter
Monday, June 11, 2007
In other news that isn't really news at all but rather an attempt to remind myself that I actually have a bit of talent, I recently read that 95% of online poker players are actually losing players. From reading blogs, it would appear that most bloggers are in that elusive winning 5%. Even though I have not had the amount of success I would like, I take some solace in knowing that I have so far succeeded where 95% of people failed. It's enough to bring a tear to my eye.
So, are you a Five Percenter? If so, congratulations, and welcome to the club.

Maybe they do, OJ (Other Jordan), but I can guarantee that I do not lie here. That's a money back guarantee, but since you pay nothing, I'm not sure its worth that much. Yeah, but I tell the truth. Otherwise, what's the point, really.

I honestly doubt that even 5% are winners.

I am in the 5% right now, but only because I made a nice cash early this month in the $26K. So I'm in by accident.
Before that, I was down a couple hundred. Now I am up a little more than a thousand. So MAYBE that is a dollar an hour. Sadly, probably less.
I agree with OJ; I think there is probably a lot of stat padding, and I think a lot of people think they are winners because they don't investigate the hard numbers. I have no time for self deception. My mediocrity is genuine and deep, but I hope to continue improving.
I also agree with Fuel. 5% seems high over the long haul.
I also agree with me. I agree with everything I just wrote. - At 1:26 AM, Schaubs said...

For starters, goat is hilarious.
Secondly, I agree that most bloggers are winning players... otherwise, they'd quit and move on.
A losing player... does not blog IMO.
Congrats Jordan, the club is where it's at and we all strive to get there and stay there. - At 2:06 AM, jjok said...

I blogged almost every day during my 5 month downswing. Why blog if you can't be honest about your results? - At 4:45 PM, Schaubs said...

There is nothing wrong with being honest... maybe I should have said:
A losing player... blogs less.
Everyone is different, and of course it goes without saying - being honest is the only way to go about it. - At 7:18 PM, Unknown said...

You are a 5 percenter, lol. Most bloggers don't like to discuss the bad, and only post about the good. It is usually pretty obvious. Ever see a post about a tourney someone did not cash in. Ever see a post with poker tracker screen shots showing losing play. My guess is bloggers as a whole are probably about 1/2 winners, and the real number of online winners is in the 7-10% range.

There's no way 10% of online players are winning. Too many come, try it, lose and leave.

Um, Dr. Zen, I said 5%.

Jordan, first off congrats on your recent tournament win.
Second off... 5% sounds low... I actually thought it would at least be double that. AT LEAST. But I guess not. I also wonder if there's a difference between tournament players and cash players. For example, I'm definitely a 5% in the cash games (being that I haven't had a losing month since 2005) but in tourneys, I'm definitely a 95% overall in my poker career. So I just wonder if there's some sort of differentiation there.
