Heads Up Challenge - Official Rules

As commissioner of the first ever Heads-Up Challenge, I present the official rules and information concerning this historic event.

The Heads-Up Challenge will officially begin on Monday, August 15, 2005. The Challenge will continue until completion, which is estimated to be between three and four weeks.

Seven (possibly eight) competitors, heiling from all parts of the globe, will compete in a series of one-on-one poker battle. Each player will enter the Noble Poker arena, home of absurbly easy bonuses and terrible chat options. The seven participants will face off against each other in the preliminary matches. After completion of all 21 preliminary matches, the four players with the highest win-loss records will advance to the semi-finals. All win-loss record ties will result in sudden death matches between the tied participants.

The semi-finals will maintain the preliminary format. All four semi-finalists will face each other in head-to-head mortal poker combat. At the completion of the six semi-final matches, the two players with the highest semi-final win-loss percentages will advance to the finals. If two or more players have tied win-loss records in the semi-finals, the players' preliminary round win-loss records will be the deciding factor. If players have identical win-loss records in the semi-finals and preliminary rounds, a sudden death match will take place.

The two finalists will compete in a grueling round of five heads-up matches. The first player to win three of the five matches will be crowned the new, undisputed Heads-Up Champion! Along with accolades, the winner shall receive $25 from each participant, except for the second place player. The second place player, as a consolation prize, shall be exempt from paying anything for his valiant efforts. If an eigth player is added to the ranks, the second place player shall receive $25 from the eighth player.

All matches are to take place at Noble Poker. All matches are to be $5 Heads-Up SNGs, unless both players in a given match agree to different stakes. All matches must be No Limit Hold'em. Participants are encouraged to announce matches prior to commencement via their own blogs, or comments on HighOnPoker. However, participants may arrange their own matches without notice. Results for each match are to be posted on the participants' blogs or left in a comment at HighOnPoker. Rules and conditions apply. If you are living

You forgot "May cause renal failure" in the Eligibility & Participation section. That's o.k. though, I guess I'll still play.

Who is the eighth potential person?

Pardon my bad Italian, but spaghetti Matarazi mama mia. All good and fun.

I sent an email to Lorenzo telling of the greatness of NYC.

As for my challengers, its looking good, guys. The eighth is really just a hope. Trip, maybe you can see about getting someone to join. Any other takers out there?

Also, if any of you wimps want to take a practice round with me, come get some. I'll go easy on you to lull you into a false sense of confidence. Victory shall be mine!

Are we still sending you the $25 entry fee before we start, or are we waiting and paying at the end?

Given that all participants are accountable bloggers, we can withhold payment of the $25 entry fee until we know the winner of the challenge. The original idea to collect payment in advance was made to allow unknown parties to enter the challenge without concern as to the anonymity of the online world.

I made that sound way more intelligent than necessary.

I resent the implication that I am accountable, however.
